Marilene Morency is a mostly self-taught metal artist.
Having travelled to North Africa in her early childhood, she has always been fascinated with the ancient art of filigree.
Combining metal arts with textile and paper techniques, she creates mostly one-of-a-kind sterling silver pieces as well as wearable art sculptures.
"Combining quilling with filigree work, I like to do free-hand patterns,
trying different combinations until I find a balanced composition.
I like to create miniature ambiances, abstract and fluid shapes,
playing with notions of presence versus absence.
I am always looking for ways to incorporate detail
into my work without losing sight of the big picture."
