Biography

Marilene Morency is a mostly self-taught metal artist.
Having travelled to North Africa in her early childhood, she has always been fascinated with the ancient art of filigree.
In 1998, having her family’s tools at hand, Marilene began exploring techniques in metalworking and has since studied textile making and researched filigree techniques. Combining these techniques, along with paper ones, she developed and refined her personal style and has been working in her home studio full time since 2004. She mostly creates one-of-a-kind sterling silver pieces.
"Combining quilling with filigree work, I like to do free-hand patterns,
trying different combinations until I find a balanced composition.
I like to create miniature ambiances, abstract and fluid shapes,
playing with notions of presence versus absence.
I am always looking for ways to incorporate detail
into my work without losing sight of the big picture."
